Interview with Edmonton’s Soft Touch Photography

by Monika Blichar

Photography has to have an artistic eye behind it to stand out these days. After all, anyone with a smart phone can shoot and edit photos from their phones instantly today! When I saw Soft Touch Photography’s work come through on our submissions for our Edmonton show, I was excited because their photos not only capture the essence of a fleeting moment, but they are colourful, attractive and intriguing. Today, I caught up with Soft Touch Photography to learn more about their process.

1-What is Soft Touch Photography?  When did you form your company?

Soft Touch Photography is a photography business runner by my husband and I, we formed our company in 2013, and had started as a dream, and now has developed into a reference only business and hopefully in the future more

2-You work with your husband. What are the best things about working together?

The best thing of working with my husband is that we compliment each other, we have fun, and keep each other focus and working towards something different that will take us outside the box, to create beautiful images and memories for our clients.

3-What kinds of things are your favourite to photograph and why?

This is a fun question because I love to photograph people and my husband loves outdoor photography.  This works great for us because he is the one that finds the spots to do those amazing images that we sometimes are fortunate to have.

4-What kinds of products will you be selling and promoting at the Art World Expo Edmonton on Friday night?

We are going to be selling some of our most favourite prints.

5-Where would you like to see your photography business in five years time?

We see our photography business growing and being able for one of us to be full time in a studio someday soon.

6-Just for fun: Who is your favourite photographer and why?

My favourite is BARON STUDIO https://youtu.be/VQVZhEBdTT4the reason why is because of their creativity.

Interview with Edmonton’s Marley Blair

by Monika Blichar

Make up and Body Painting has fascinated me for years. When Marley Blair sent in her submission, I was beyond excited! Her work is creative, fun loving and beautiful and her experience is extensive in the industry. I caught up with her today to learn more about her work and her entry into this year’s Art World Expo Body Painting Competition!

jess - Marley Blair.jpg

When did you start body painting?

In junior high, I started face painting for extra cash in the summer at small-town festivals and farmers markets. I was always the person doing makeup for my friends and family members before we went out. Makeup has always been a form of creative expression for me and I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t fascinated by it. I really got into body painting when I was about 14 when I started going to raves and music festivals. The smaller parties we attended always had themes, you did not show up in just jeans and a t-shirt. Getting ready was a production. My friends and I always made costumes and had the makeup to match. My looks were a great ice breaker, I made many friends over the years because people asked me “Who did your makeup?”. The summer of 2001 I met my dear friend Chantal, she was a traveling vendor, she invited me to come work for her the following summer. Her offer was to pay for my festival tickets and would feed me as payment. The summer I spent with her is really where I got my start… I painted out of the booth for tips and trades. I remember the first day I painted Chantal hoping it might generate some interest and by the end of the afternoon I had a line up out the door. I left home that summer with just a back full of paint and a couple bucks. I went home that fall with a backpack full of cash, a whole new wardrobe and a full-fledged passion for body painting.

2-You’ve worked at a lot of festivals and even attended Burning Man. How have these festival experiences influenced your body painting and makeup business?

Going to parties gave me a platform to body paint and it was, at the time, an environment that allowed for self-expression with no judgment. Attending music festivals really opened eyes to how makeup can empower people. It can let their alter egos out. It allows people to push boundaries and embrace what truly makes them individual. Makeup is self-expression and makeup is art, it’s not something that has to be specific or have rules. That time in my life seems like forever ago but I still keep the same ideas close to my heart. I think about these things even when I’m doing makeup for a Bride or a Mom or a Drag Queen… what makes this person in front of me unique, what do they want and need to put forth?  Makeup is not “one size fits all”.

3-What is your favorite part of being a makeup artist?

The ability to transform. Makeup is powerful, you can affect how people see themselves. If I can change someone’s mood or outlook on themselves for the positive that is pretty incredible.

4-Can you give us a few hints about your body paint entry for this year’s Art World Expo Edmonton?

I am the world’s biggest procrastinator and my ideas tend to change and morph often. I can promise it will be colorful.

mira2 - Marley Blair.jpg

5-Where would you like to see your makeup and body painting business in the next 5 years?

Body painting is something that I truly want to put my energy back into, it has taken a back burner to beauty makeup in my career over the years. I would love to work on more creative projects and collaborate with more people in the industry. I really want to focus more on my freelancing and teaching. Doing that full time would be my dream.

6-Just for fun: What kind of animal would you be if you could be any kind and why?

Is a mermaid an animal? You might say I’m a bit obsessed with mermaids. When I say my power color is teal it’s not an understatement. Breathing underwater, talking to fish and getting to wear a jazzy shell bra every day would be amazing!

Interview with Edmonton’s Wild Earth Artistry

 by Monika Blichar
Each year, we are blessed to be able to work with a variety of artists who are so creative via our exhibitions at the Art World Expo. For our first annual Edmonton Art World Expo, the caliber of artists has not disappointed. Today I caught up with Joelle for Wild Earth Artistry who is competing in this year’s Art World Expo Body Painting Competition. She tells us about her journey as a make up artist and gives a tiny hint about her body paint entry for this Friday’s event at the Muttart!
 149257_505492512848026_738631139_n - joelle Dubielew (1).jpg

1-When did you start make up and body painting?

I’ve always been an artist, but after playing around with Halloween make up for a couple years, I decided to go to school for it. I’d been working in the oilfield for way too many years and I just knew that wasn’t where I saw myself working in the future. So in 2011, I attended a film, fashion and theater course in Edmonton.

2-What is your favourite thing about being a make up artist? My favourite part about being a make up artist is seeing the transformation happen and seeing the model and clients reactions. It’s so fun to be able to dream up a creation in my head, but to see to come to life is so exciting! It’s the best feeling to see how happy your art has made someone else.

3-Do you have a favourite brand of make up or tool that you use? I like using torn up sponges to create texture, and help with blending.

4-Can you give us a hint about your “Lady Luck” body painting entry for Art World Expo Body Painting Competition at the Muttart on March 16?  The only hint I’m giving about my “Lady Luck” body paint is….. she’s going to sparkle!

IMG_7721 - joelle Dubielew.JPG

5-Where would you like to see your arts business in five years? The last 5 years I’ve let my art sit more on the back burner. My job was the focus not my passion. I’ve recently started my own business and I’m super excited to give myself more time to create the art I love. So in 5 years from now, I just hope that I’ve better myself as an artist, that I’ve created a good name for my business and that I’m still doing what I love!

6-Just for fun: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I love travelling! I’m more of an adventurer so I would love some kind of backpacking type of trip to Europe, I love history, castles and anything old. Our world is so fascinating and interesting and I just want to see it all.
To learn more about Wild Earth Artistry, visit her Facebook Page.  Be sure to come to the show and check out Joelle’s entry to the body painting competition! It will be amazing no doubt!

Interview with Edmonton Artist Mira Nova

Mira Nova headshot by Agata Raymond Photography

by Monika Blichar

I love meeting new artists, especially ones that can do things I can’t. It’s amazing the talent that has signed on for the first annual Art World Expo Edmonton. Mira Nova was one of the first artists to sign on for our event and looking through her work, I was eager to meet her. She has a fluidity to her work that is both soothing and powerful at the same time. Her ability to convey and capture softness and confidence is why I chose her Hawk to be on this year’s flyer. In her explanation of the piece, she says that hawks represent messengers and for Art World Expo, that is exactly what our goal is to offer artists and the general public. We are the messengers of creativity soaring through time and space to share art and imagination with guests, readers, followers, fans and what has become our wonderful art family.

1-When did you start making art?

I’ve drawn since I was little. It was always an activity that I did most. That and playing outside or with pets.
2-What inspires you to create?
I am inspired by the beauty of nature and the depths of emotion, constantly working on ways to bring them together. There is beauty in the dark aspects too, in a way that brings more life if that makes sense. So I like to bring it all together when I can.
11891269_398248440376857_7753496793696173795_n - Mira Nova (1).jpg
3-You work a lot with animals as a subject matter. What is it about animals that inspires you to create?
Animals have filled a large part of my life. From pets at home, to experiences at wildlife sanctuaries, they’ve always held a grounding, spiritual connection for me. Many moments of understanding, learning to trust, and bonding. Fascination with their ways of being keeps me captivated all the time.
Hawk2 - Mira Nova (2).jpg
4-This year, your image is featured on the Art World Expo Edmonton flyer. Can you tell us about this piece?
The Hawk was inspired by a good friend of mine Meighan, she commissioned me to draw it for her. When I began to draw it, the patterns and flow came out very naturally, it’s always great when that happens, sometimes things take a while to come together.
I heard a story a long time ago about the hawk being a messenger, so I drew a bubble just under the wing that I intended to put a message inside. As I drew it, I started to think it would be better for the person viewing the image to derive a message of their own, so I left it open for them.
EdmontonFlyerFina.jpg
5-Where do you see your work and business in 5 years?
In 5 years, I hope to have a few series out and finally experience being a vendor at the Whyte Avenue Artwalk. If everything goes well, tattoo will also be a part of my skill set in the future.
6-Just for fun: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
There are so many places I’d love to travel. Anywhere that is rich in nature, art and music, I would be happy to explore. The one that sticks out the most right now is Iceland.

The sense of wonder and creativity that is evoked when looking at Mira Nova’s pieces are an extension of the meaning of the artist’s name itself. Creating new wonders, this Edmonton-based illustrator and visual artist uses illustrations and paintings to show us a world that is bursting with vivid colors and enchanting lines.

Mira Nova has shown her pieces at various galleries, including the Art Gallery of Alberta and the Bleeding Heart Gallery. Additionally, her work has been featured at several local events and cafes, including festivals such as Reign Bough Fiddle and Spectrum. She was the principal designer for the Reign Bough Fiddle Music and Arts Festival (AB) poster in 2017.

Interview with Edmonton Artist Maureen Donovan

by Monika Blichar
There are many artists in Edmonton but what drew me to Maureen was actually her Instagram account. She is active, robust and very engaging on her IG which is something very nice to see. Her work ranges from all sorts of subject matter but it is her eagerness to express herself creatively that is so conveyed in her work. I haven’t met her yet, but I know that from our interactions in the vortex of the online world, we will become great friends I am sure! I caught up to Maureen and here’s what she had to say about watercolour, life and super-powers.
1-Why did you choose watercolour as a medium?
It found me actually. I was so busy in my life that I needed something  to bring me back to calm, peace, my center and found advertised in our community paper of Onoway AB Adult Watercolour courses at the high school by artist Dave Ripley. That was it. I took one course and I was hooked.
2-You say that you had spent most of your life doing anything but art. How has art changed your life since discovering your passion for it?
Art enhanced my life! It takes me out of life’s whirlwind of busyness and captivates me. Art keeps me spellbound while creating in the moment. Mixing colours and transforming them into an art work is rewarding. It’s a positive, spiritual experience. It’s fun! It’s JOY!
3-You mention that you have taken inspiration from your travels for your art. Where is your favourite place you have visited and have you painted it?
I have been to so many countries.  I have just begun to paint series of paintings from those travels. I Love Africa, our ocean adventures, Asia…there are too many places to mention and so much to paint. It would take more than a life time to paint all my favourite places and wildlife. And we are still traveling.  It’s like I paint from my photographs and memories and people get to know who I am through my art.
4-Where would you like to see your art in the next five years?
Because there is so much to learn and so many people to learn from I hope my style becomes recognizable as my own. If in 5 years one person was to say ‘that looks like Maureen’s work’,  I would feel like I have achieved this goal.
5-What advice would you give to emerging artists?
Let your self resonate in your creations. Experience the love and joy in expression. Be confident in and trust your uniqueness. Let your passions guide you.
6-For fun. If you had a super power, what would it be?
I would love to be able to give others the ability to see their gifts and talents and the trust to develop them to acheive their dreams.

Words to share:  Never be afraid to try new things and take advantage of every opportunity – for you never know – you just might uncover a  passion that may change the way you dream, care for yourself and how you discover every moment in life that belongs to you – colour it proudly!

To learn more about Maureen, visit her famous Instagram account and check out her exhibit at the Muttart on March 16, 2018! Get your tickets today, we are running low with only 83 tickets left!

Interview with Edmonton Artist Danyella Axani

by Monika Blichar
One of my favourite kinds of art is POP ART. It allows us to step into all things popular in our culture but also into new interpretations of them. What I love about POP ART is that it is bold, colorful, and full of life. I’ve been long inpsired by Warhol and Lichtenstein and can still remember the first time I saw a real Lichtenstein in person at the Seattle Art Museum. For me, POP ART says a lot about our current reality and as with any good art, it also moves you and inspires you to think about the message behind the work.
Today, I caught up with Danyella Axani who attracted me to her work because she is using cultural phenomenons in her work to develop her style and platform. Her work as an illustrator and designer have proven to showcase talent and amusement but also depict pop culture and intertwine what is concrete and imaginary within her work. Ultimately, she allows the viewer to distinguish reality and imagination.

1-When did you start making art?

As far back as I can remember I have always had a need to create, draw or paint pictures. The need to be creative is such a large part of who I am. I have always loved drawing people. It is one childhood comfort I never out grew, like a ratty old comfort blanket, no one quite understands why this makes me happy. Never the less, it is a part of who I am and I will never let it go.  GWTW5x7 - Danyella Axani.jpg
2-You are obviously inspired by fairy tales and well known characters from stories and movies. Is there a reason you have such an affinity for this subject matter?

What can I say…I’m a bit of a fan girl,  I love watching movies and briefly escaping into another world, identifying with the heroine. I also love steampunk fashion. I wanted my princesses to show strength, sassiness and confidence, so I thought Steampunk inspired princesses would be the way to go.
3-What kinds of work will you have at the Art World Expo?
I will be showing my series of Illustrated steampunk inspired fairy tale princess available in prints, stickers, bookmarks and buttons. I will also be showing my acrylic paintings.    Jasmine
4-What is your favourite thing about being a visual artist?

There are two favourite things actually…I love seeing the joy it brings to the people around me. The recognition of someone’s face lighting up because they like something that I have created is amazing. Secondly, I love the inspiration I get from other artists. I can spend all day at Galleries, Art/craft expos and see all the amazing talent that flows out of people and talk to the artists about their technique and what inspires them. Repunzel
5-Where do you want to see your art business in five years time?

Time will tell. All I know is I will continue to share my art with the world around me.

6-Just for fun: What character would you be if you had to choose one?

Princess Jasmine for sure. Having a pet tiger as your confidant, going on a trip around the world with your true love…not to mention being friends with Genie. That would be pretty fun.

Interview with Karen Newman-Studio Forty8

by Monika Blichar
There’s always been something really appealing to me about working with family. The appeal for me is that I get to work with someone I really love and care about and I get to spend more time with family doing something productive that helps all of us. It’s rare to find successful businesses that are family run these days but Karen Newman is making headway by working with her son at Studio Forty8. I caught up with her to learn more about her work and what guests can expect from her at this year’s Art World Expo Edmonton at Muttart Conservatory on March 16, 2018.
 DSC_0174 - Karen Newman (1).JPG
1-When did you start making art?
I have been making art my whole life.  My Dad dabbled a little in painting when I was very young and started me early, to keep me busy I guess.  I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t doing something creative. I had hoped at one time it would be my full time career.  I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from York University,  but after graduating I didn’t feel that commercial work was for me.  I traveled and worked for a bit and then life and family took over and a career in the arts got put on the back burner.  Inspired by my teenage son Dylan, who has aspirations to be a professional artist himself, we started Studio Forty8 three years ago,  and I am back creating art on a regular (although part time) basis.
2-What is your favourite medium and why?
INK-the blacker the better!  I love the control and precision I have with fine liner pens like microns. I have recently started using claybord and am so thrilled with the ability to be able to ‘scratch’ in even finer lines and details than I could ever get with a pen.
 DSC_0172 - Karen Newman.JPG
3-You use a lot of black and white in your work. Is there meaning behind the choice to use this combination?
Black and white is my preference purely for aesthetic reasons.  The high contrast and graphic quality of just using black and white really appeals to me.  I am strongly influenced by print makers and by telling a story with only line.   I had a client of mine sum it up perfectly as she admired on of my pieces at a show, she said “sometimes you just don’t need anything but black and white!”
4-What kinds of works will you have for show and sale at Art World Expo Edmonton? Will you have any show specials or contests?
I’m very excited about Art World Expo, the Muttart is a wonderful venue for my nature based work.  I will have original ink drawings on paper and claybord inspired by my backyard (literally).  I will be show casing my ‘Gilded Insect’ series which includes both originals and prints that have be hand tinted with metalic or irradescent inks.  As well, I will have a small preview from the paper product line that I am currently designing. I hadn’t really thought about doing any promotions but I will certainly take it into consideration and see if I can come up with something fun!
 DSC_0169 - Karen Newman.JPG
5-Where do you want to see your business in five years?
It’s hard to imagine where this business will be in 5 years.  It was started with my son to help him get a taste of what being a professional artist would be like.  It has been a tremendous learning experience for both of us but in a few years he will be out on his own persuing his dreams and I will have to strike out on my own, too! This will be the first event I am doing without him (since he is under age) so I guess it will be a little taste of what things will be like in the future. I do really hope to be in a position where I can carry on doing this and reinvent myself as a one woman show…Studio Forty9 maybe?
6-Just for fun: What is your favourite childhood memory?
Wow!  Hard to pick specific memory…I would have to say camping trips with my family.  Always lots of adventures, laughs and learning new things!

Interview with Edmonton based artist Frances Pelletier

Frances Pelletier is an artist from Edmonton who is showing and selling her work at Art World Expo Edmonton on March 16 at the Muttart Conservatory. We caught up with her today to learn more about her work, meaning and goals.

Frances Pelletier - Frances Pelletier.jpg

What’s your background?

My background probably has the most influence on my art today. I was born in 1965 and raised in Edmonton, AB.  Growing up, I was exposed to photography, music, writing, painting, and singing.  My family is very artistic/musical.  My dad introduced me to oil painting at an early age.  I finished 3 paintings I believe.  Then I assume my piano lessons took over.  I don’t remember painting again until my late teens.  This time it was watercolors that I dabbled with on my own.  One work is really all that came of it.  A lighthouse that is hanging in my parent’s home.

Dad was a photographer and he would take me on road trips in the countryside to take photos of old houses and barns.  It was quite an adventure.  I would climb around in these old buildings and pose for pictures in doors and up high in windows.  Visits to my uncle’s farm every summer were great fun, too.  My uncle had granaries full of old treasures (not grain!).  At the top of the hill we could visit a huge array of old cars.  A car graveyard.  Rural scenes, old cars and old buildings are now a favorite subject for me to paint!

Growing up in Edmonton gave me an appreciation for city life.  It might sound odd, but I happen to really like the look of oil refineries.  They were practically in our backyard!  At night the lights look so pretty.  I hope to do a painting that flatters the refineries.  One day.  Bussing it to university every day, I got to see the river valley, cross over a lot of bridges and take in all the high rises of the city. I guess this is why I also like to paint cityscapes.

After completing my BA Special in Criminology at the U of A, I was unable to obtain work in this field.  Marriage and children happened instead.  What a blessing!  My husband, Mark, and I moved to his home town of Legal, AB.  Mark returned to farming and we moved out of town and raised 4 children.  I really had no time or space for art as the kids were growing up.

Fast forward 30 years to 2017.  I am not sure how it really happened, I just decided to buy a cheap acrylic paint set at Walmart and try my hand at painting again.  Since I have no formal art training I turned to YouTube and discovered I could learn quite a lot from some of the tutorials!  Living on the farm gives me so many photo opportunities which in turn develop into art.  My “art heart” is torn between city and country life.Let's Take a Walk - Frances Pelletier (1).jpg

What does your work aim to say?

I aim to show the beauty in whatever I am painting.  I like to paint realistically in most cases.  I’m a stickler for rules and laws, a “by the book” kind of person.  I believe that’s why I like to paint things true to their likeness.  Basically, a painting should look like what it represents.  That’s how I’ve always felt.  Impressionism and abstract art seem difficult for me to comprehend and even harder to create! However, I am trying to grow my style by taking a few art classes and painting subjects that are out of my comfort zone.

My paintings of old buildings, cars and rural scenery are an attempt on my part to capture what is fading away in the countryside.  Eventually, all the old houses, homesteads, cars and machinery will disappear, to be replaced by new homes, modern cars and farm equipment.  We can never go back.  It’s kind of sad, but the past will live on in my artwork.Awaiting the Storm - Frances Pelletier (1).jpg

Who are your biggest influences?

I would say that I am inspired and influenced the most by my Dad and my sister. Dad, because he photographed and painted a variety of subjects from the countryside and from the city.  And of course, he introduced me to painting early in life.  He’s supportive and encouraging in all my artistic endeavors.  And my sister, what can I say…she inspires me because her art is so unique and unstructured.  She works with mixed media and where my work is quite detailed and controlled her art can be abstract and freeing!   Sometimes we work together in her studio and I learn so much!  Techniques, mediums and enthusiasm!

Lean On Me - Frances Pelletier (1).jpg

How have you developed your career?

My “career” is pretty short, having just got going in March of 2017.  I’m pretty prolific and spend quite a bit of time in my studio.  At first, I did a few art walks in St. Albert.  It’s there that I was introduced to Instagram.  Thanks Karen!  I learned about The Art from the Unknown from my sister.  That was a great experience.  Rachel Notley does a geat job with that show!  I sold my first 2 paintings to people other than friends and family! I also joined the VASA (Visual Arts Studio Association) gallery and took part in an exhibition this past December. I started up my website (www.fdp-artworks.com).  There are all sorts of opportunities if you spend some time searching the internet.  I will be the feature artist at the Dow Centennial Center’s Alberta Lottery Fund Art Gallery in Fort Saskatchewan, AB during the month of July.  I’ll have about 25 paintings hanging there.  Instagram connected me with The Art World Expo in Edmonton.  I just want to grow and expand, connect with other artists and let it happen!

Where do you want to go with your art?

I guess I would like to continue to expand my art to include other mediums besides acrylic.  Watercolor is something I would really like to experiment with.  I want to get my name out there.  It will be a challenge since I live in a somewhat remote area.  The idea of Studio visits appeals to me, but again, my location poses a challenge.  Being surrounded by open space is appealing, though.  I’d like to keep my artwork affordable, but if one day a big gallery takes an interest my work I wouldn’t turn down any opportunity!  I want to continue to paint what appeals to me and not get caught up in just trying to please everyone else.

Interview with Edmonton Artist Marty Johnson

By Monika Blichar

It’s exciting to expand Art World Expo. Our latest project in Edmonton is only adding fuel to the fire for making this event stand out from the crowd. Today, I caught up with Edmonton based artist Marty Johnson for MJ Designs to ask about his work and what we can expect from him at our March 16 event in Edmonton!

1-When did you start making art?

Art has always been a part of my life as a creative outlet and a way of procrastinating from things I should have been doing as a child. I chose a profession in massage therapy as I ventured into the ‘real world’ out of school. It wasn’t until a decade later that I felt I had learned what I needed in terms of self motivation to be able to create on a schedule. It was about that time when I started focusing on my art more. I had met some like minded people that wanted to create as well. This and with my training in massage therapy I started to put my creative abilities and comfortableness with bodies together. This was a challenge in the beginning.  These open minded friends helped me venture into body painting. I now have such a wide variety of artistic mediums that I like to work with. Challenging myself to step out of my box has become a way of life with my art. And I love each new challenge as I succeed and fail because that is what growth is.

2-Your project for Canada’s 150th Birthday was amazing! What inspired you to use body paint in this project?

This project was a team effort between myself, a wonderful Photographer Christine Young and a creative Hair stylist Hollie George. Hollie first proposed the idea of a group body paint project. Us 3 met for a creative meeting about ideas and quickly developed into this amazing Canadian Body Paint artwork. As a team we narrowed down what aspects to show for each province. We know there are many beautiful and wonderful things each province has to show but we chose specific aspects that impacted us.

This was a 2 year long project and I specifically wanted to challenge myself more than I had in the past. I wanted artistic poses instead of painting just backs of people. I also decided to include a sunset, daylight and night scenes highlighting different aspects of Canada,  like the beautiful aurora borealis in the northern provinces and territories. As you look at this piece keep in mind that we did not paint each province in sequence. For example BC was painted almost a year apart from AB.

We couldn’t have been happier to complete it on our Nation’s 150th birthday year.

3-What is your favourite medium to work with?

At present I have enjoyed acrylic paint the most but I have not ventured into oils or water colours. Sculpting I have enjoyed sand, snow, ice and foam.

I am a person that loves to try new mediums based on the creative job presented to me. If you ask me the same question next year it may be completely different and that’s what I love about art, we are our only limitation.

4-What kinds of work will you have at the Edmonton Art World Expo? Will you have any show specials?

I will be bringing three different series with me. The Canada Body Paint images of course. A must see! The other two, you’ll have to come check out for yourself. I’ll have originals, prints as well as some products with my art on them so there will be something for anyone.

5-Where would you like to see your business in 5 years?

Hmmmm…business and art, what an odd mix. At present I am guest curating a project with the art gallery in my home town. I continue to have doors open up to me that I never even knew existed. It will be a wonderful time these next five years. I love competing. I love creating custom artworks for people. And I love working on my own projects. I believe I am at a cusp of discovery within myself and the direction I am headed. My direction has been more custom work for individuals but I will be creating works of art based more on what moves me. I believe the next five years will have two paths; moving emotional artwork and products as well as competing in more renowned competitions.

6-What advice would you give to emerging artists?

Simply I suggest to try and fail, but try again. Creativity is always a learning process so don’t be afraid to fail. Some of my best lessons I have learned from not succeeding.  Do not ever think you can’t learn more and from many professionals in different fields. Be open to any lesson that is being presented because they are everywhere.
