I always love meeting new artists and sharing them in our network. This time, I catch up with Lindsay who has a daring sense of adventure in her art and life!
Lindsay graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Television Film and New Media then proceeded to get her MAED at University of Phoenix. Lindsay is from the Hollywood area where she worked at DreamWorks as well as other film companies and eventually took on her own clients. Some clients include Marriott, US Hanger Company, Hilton, San Diego Rescue Mission, Pussers and many more!

Monika Blichar has many things and not just one. A leader on the Vancouver Art Scene since 2009, she has been working with vigor to create community through art by way of events, classes, workshops, art tours and her own work.
Since 2009, she has produced Art World Expo successfuly seven times at Science World in Vancouver and Hard Rock in Toronto. She has taught thousands of students via MAB Art Studio & Boutique Gallery including adults and kids. For kids who haven’t been able to pay, she also set up a foundation where funds are raised to help give opportunities to kids who wouldn’t normally be able to join in. The foundation also supports Art World Expo and hundreds of artists annually gain a platform to show and sell work, auction off their pieces and for artists in need, the foundation pulls together resources to support them during times of difficulty. She has also founded local and international art retreats in British Columbia and Europe and has taken amateur and experienced artists to places like Paris, Bergerac, the Dordogne River, Amsterdam, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Warsaw. In addition to all of this, she creates her own work.
On Friday, June 30, you are cordially invited to step into the world of Monika Blichar. Attendees can view and purchase paintings, prints, photography, jewellery and accessories by Monika. (Prices range from $10-$5,000.00) This will be Monika’s first official Solo Show where she will share works created over the last 20 years-some never before seen pencil drawings, sketches, and paintings. Further, the solo show will kick off a year long exhibition nationally and abroad at partner locations. SUMMER STUDIES: Top Three Tips for Summer Painting

Summer is just around the corner and with sun and light to inspire you, it is the perfect time to paint in studio! Here are our top three tips for painting in studio this summer!
Choose Your Subject Matter-If you don’t have a target, how will you know where to shoot?
When you are choosing something to paint this summer, try to choose something you haven’t ever tried before. Think of places you have visited or will visit this summer and take photographs then add these to your collection of what you want to paint. Recently, I went to Saltspring Island with students and captured an array of beautiful images that I would like to paint this summer.
Here are two photos. On the left is the original photo at Cafe Talia on Saltspring Island. On the right is an edited photo in the SuperPhoto App which helps me see the painting before I create it.
Get Outside!
Make sure to take advantage of good weather and go outside to look at colour, shadow, perspective and light. With every season, there are new aspects to observe when it comes to nature and our surroundings. If you are painting cityscapes, be sure to go wander around and look at buildings and how the sunset or morning glow affects light and shadows. If you love nature, try walking in the forest at different times of the day to see the colour differences in leaves or trees during different times of the day. Think about how to create these colours and also how to capture the movement of a forest in your painting.
Challenge Yourself
Painting new subject matter can be a challenge but can also be immensely rewarding. Challenge yourself by trying new subject matter or experimenting with using new materials. We recommend getting new pastes or resin sands and trying them out in your next pieces. If you haven’t tried yet, here is a product we recommend by GOLDEN

A 12 day creative artist retreat awaits the emerging or experienced aritst. Guests on tour this year can expect daily art instruction from founder Monika Blichar and co-teacher Irene Eaves. Both women have a combined painting and teaching experience which includes painting, drawing, mixed media and intuitive painting. Guests will receive daily art classes inspired by a joint venture workbook available exclusively to tour participants inspired by Spain’s architecture, landscape and colour. In addition to our art practise, we will be helping guests enjoy museums, art galleries and day activities after classes. Guests can expect a full day of art and culture with evenings to themselves as well as a free day to contemplate their art, explore the surroundings or venture off on a day trip solo or as a group.

“You’re Going to Make It-A Creativity Workbook to Help You Make Your Best Art!” by Founder of Art World Expo Monika Blichar has been a real hit this summer!
Monika has been working with emerging and established artists since 2009 via various projects including teaching at MAB Art Studio & Boutique Gallery in North Vancouver. In response reflections about how to help people be more creative in their art and lives, she put together a unique workbook to help even the most beginner artist ignite creativity!
Inside students can complete 10 exercises on things like highlighting, shading, perspective, colour wheel and even some work on portraiture. Monika also included some inspirational worksheets that will help anyone pin-point what they would like to do with their creativity and take action steps to achieve those goals. Blichar says that fostering the desire to create is crucial to well being and spurring imagination. She can’t live without creating and attributes her own creativity to doing something right-brained every day. “Whatever it is that you would like to create,” she says, “it can be nurtured and developed with an open-mind, dedication and most importantly, fun!”
Monika is always giving back to the arts community through fundraising and this is just another way for her to help others start their own work and be sure they understand the fundamentals of art. The first 100 books help support facility costs at MAB Art Studio & Boutique Gallery. So far, Blichar has sold 80 copies! Help her meet the goal by ordering an Ebook Here!
As a result, we have been able to accomplish many wonderful projects including ongoing children’s and adults arts programs, art shows featuring local and international artists in our studio and gallery as well as via Art World Expo, and even starting Painting Dreams International Art Tours and so, so much more!

Wroclaw is known as “the meeting place”. With its picturesque architecture, many coffee shops and restaurants as well as attractions to visit, any artist will find an array of inspiration. The city is full of people, art, history and culture!

Our trip here this year is part of Painting Dreams International Art Tours. Each year, a group of artists joins us for a two week tour of a selected area overseas. This year, we chose to take the tour to Wroclaw as it is the European Culture Capital for 2016 with stop overs in Amsterdam and Warsaw. We arrived late on Saturday night and since arrival, have enjoyed visiting attractions such as the Rynek, museums, and art galleries. The city is quite busy this year and we are finding that many people speak English well. Our travellers are able to get around easily on the trolley system and our apartment is located minutes from the downtown core. So far, some of our highlights have been visiting the National Museum, the Botanical Gardens, and the Panorama.
Though our group is small this year, we have made time to create works and are anticipating cooler weather in order to be able to paint plein air! The weather has been unusually hot for the area this year, but we have been able to create a few pieces over the last few days! Sketching has been ideal to get some ideas down on paper and our canvas pads and travel kits have been a great way to create pieces that are easily transportable and that can be made anywhere.
Sketch by Monika “Polish Princess” as well as two acrylic paintings. Inspirations for these pieces have been the city’s 300 some odd gnomes and Polish scenes, insects and architecture. Works in progress.
Kathryn has been working steadily on her bird piece.
